Background

Michele Scheinkman, L.C.S.W., is a faculty member at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. She is  in private practice in Manhattan where she offers individual, couple, and family therapy in English and Portuguese.

She has taught couples and family therapy for over 40 years in the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia. During her years in Chicago she was  Director of Couples Therapy Training at the Chicago Center for Family Health,  taught family therapy  at the School of Social Service and Administration, and was a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago. She was also a  staff psychotherapist and supervisor at the Student Mental Health Clinic at the University of Chicago and  consultant  at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute. Between 2000 and 2005 she consulted at the multicultural Roberto Clemente Center in the East Village, New York. She has written extensively about  couples therapy on the topics of impasses, infidelity, intimacy, jealousy and sexuality.
